Reinvention and Revival Issue

Editor’s Note

It has been a while since our inaugural launch. We lost a beloved and integral member of our team, and it took time to grieve that loss. Then, the pandemic hit, and everything went south from there. But as we slowly come to terms with things, we realize that it would be a travesty not to continue with our baby, FAS Maritime. Gina wouldn’t like it. If she could, she would give us an earful of expletives and admonitions that only Regina Abuyuan could muster.

Our FAS Maritime was first a work of love, put together by like-minded people who love the maritime and shipping industries in all their facets and gamuts. It is an entirely different world that encompasses a lot of other industries, not just manning or seafaring, but also the whole business side of things, including logistics, freight, airfreight, ports, domestic shipping, overseas shipping, and more. We want to put out a shipping magazine that can tackle all the issues in this industry, give you the best stories about it, in it, and the stories within the stories, only told better.

This issue is almost like a mini relaunch. It is proof of our undying love for this industry and all its intricacies within what looks like a simple setup. We want to give maritime and shipping a voice and place in the national consciousness, which has been looking at them in a different way.

We want to not just nudge, but really shake someone’s consciousness, a nation’s interest, that MARITIME and SHIPPING are integral parts of nation-building and the economy. That shipping is vital and fuels a country’s growth. The country’s archipelagic nature should guarantee this industry’s importance and highlight how it should be part of the government’s top priorities. After all, 90 percent of global trade is moved via ships!

Watch out for our future releases—with stories that will tackle and break down issues affecting not just the labor side and business side of our shipping industry, but everything that is attached to it, in a manner that only FAS Maritime can do.

Stories, yes. That’s what we do. Only, TOLD BETTER.
